Schwangau is a common of Germany, in the Land of Bavaria (3 419 inhabitants).
The discovery of tools on the Frauenberg attests the presence of a first settlement to the age of the stone.
In the year 15 av. J. - C., the Roman troops conquer, under the command of Drusus and Tibère the Préalpes until the the Danube. The Minnesang (troubadour) Hitpold de Schwangau (towards 1190 - 1256) left an abundant work. Schwangau passes to the Bavaria to the 15th century. One century later is built the first castle of Hohenschwangau.
The Plague devastation the area of 1618 with 1648. The tradition wants that it was disencumbered of it by a procession with Saint Coloman.
The castle changes several times of owner before being acquired by the family of the Wittelsbach which restores it. The king Louis II made contruire Neuschwanstein as of 1869.
