School of the second chance

The schools of the 2nd chance (E2C) emanate from the objectives defined by White paper “To teach and learn: towards the cognitive company”, proposed by Edith Cresson and adopted by the European commission in 1995.

In France, one counts forty today it. Associations Law of 1901, the E2C accommodate young people from 18 to 25 years (or more) left the school system without diploma and qualification.

The financings vary from one school to another; they can be assured by the Areas, the FSE, the tax of training, the companies partners, etc

In these schools, not of preestablished program, but a course personalized for each pupil. The concept of the School of the Second Chance rests on the principle of alternation in company and on the individualization of the trainings within the framework of a handing-over on level of the basic knowledge (mathematical, French, data-processing). In-company trainings make it possible to the trainees to discover trades and to build a community project. The formation, one 10,5 months duration, can be stopped constantly as of the moment that the trainee reaches employment or a training leading to qualification (the range at the school is 7 months).

Rate of success is eloquent: 70% of young people reach an employment (TDCI or CDD), a contract of professionalisation or are directed towards a training leading to qualification or diplômante.

Among the partners of the steering committees of the E2C one finds the State education, the territorial collectivities, the European commission, of the companies and the social welfare.
