School of the ministry for the Kingdom

The École of the ministry for the Kingdom is a school created by the organization of the Témoins of Jéhovah. It is used to form the faithful masculines which already taking up duties of monitoring in the local congregations.

History and unfolding

At the time of the assembled of 1958, to the Yankee Stadium, the president of the Company Watchtower of the time, Nathan Homer Knorr, announced the creation of a new school to train supervisors of district and supervisors of district, like perfecting the capacities of the old or supervisors inside each congregation. This course, baptized School of the ministry for the Kingdom, consisted in the beginning of 24 days of course, 96 sessions of lessons and twenty speech or lessons of instruction. The subjects included lesson of the organization, the methods of evangelization, the meetings and the monitoring.

This school was defined like proposer a “special course of formation devoted to the function of the supervisor”. This course was not considered a seminar to train men for ordination, this school being addressed already to ministers ordered by the religious movement.

The installation of the courses lasted seven months. The March 9th 1959, in South Lansing (State of New York), where was the biblical École of Guiléad (in the installations then known under the name of " Farm of Royaume"), the first opened classifies this new school with 25 students, and this one lasted one month. In other countries, this school was held at the places envisaged by the subsidiary companies.

The April 9th 1967, the School of the ministry for the Kingdom was transferred to the Béthel from Brooklyn. Then, in 1968, it was transferred to Pittsburgh. In 1974, the school started to function in several Salles of the Kingdom and the Salles from assemblies.

In addition, of the changes were brought as regards organization: for example, in December 1977, with Brooklyn, a special course five weeks was inaugurated for the members of the committees of subsidiary companies. The Central College, the world direction of the Pilot of Jéhovah, thus made provisions so that, during the year 1991, all the old and all the ministerial servants attend the School of the ministry for the Kingdom. The new course was conceived to fulfill the current requirements of the Prédication. Teaching was ensured by representatives of the Béthel and supervisors itinerant.

Unfolding

The school published its own handbook of study. In 1977 was published the first part of a new handbook entitled Prêtez attention to yourself and the whole the herd ; the second and third part were published respectively in 1979 and 1981. Finally, a complete book having the same title appeared in 1991, with a revision of the matters. This book is exclusively reserved for each new old, after its nomination in its congregation.

After the first year of operation to the the United States, the matters of the course were translated in other languages and were used gradually in the whole world. Considering it was not possible for all the supervisors to go away from their functions in their respective congregations for one month whole, one started to use one two weeks duration courses starting from 1966.

In 1977, provisions were taken so that all the old attend a 15 hours course lying within the scope of the School of the ministry for the Kingdom. Other sessions of this course, spaced few years and one variable duration, took place since.

Requirements

At the beginning, the course addressed to the old (then called servants of congregation) and to the special pioneers. However, in 1966, the contents of the course was modified and was limited to the old , over one two weeks period only.

Moreover, since 1984, the ministerial assistants (then called ministerial servants) also received a formation within the framework of this School of the ministry for the Kingdom.

Statistics

With the Canada, the first school of this type took place on January 1st 1961, with the subsidiary company of Toronto. At the end of August this year, 151 special supervisors and pioneers had followed the course. In 1971, this school had held 152 classes with the Canada, with a total of 3.370 assistants; in 1977, 5.980 had attended the courses.

During the year of service 1995, this school was held in the majority of the countries of the world. The same year, with the the United States, 71 classes were organized, to which assisted a total of 136.480 faithful masculines (69 771 old and 66.709 ministerial assistants). Teaching was exempted by 35 representatives of the itinerant Béthel and 500 supervisors. In Zambia, 76 itinerant supervisors attended a special meeting, after which 6.418 old and 4.349 ministerial assistants followed the courses given in 57 classes distributed in all the country. With the Malawi, 28 supervisors itinerant, 1.573 other old and 1.424 ministerial assistants were formed at this school.

In 2003, the course was held in three sessions. The first, of the Tuesday to Thursday, was for the itinerant supervisors; the second, Friday and Saturday, for the old ones; and the third, Sunday, for the ministerial assistants. The contents of the course were translated and used by the various subsidiary companies in the world.
