the School of Engineers in Mathematical and Mechanical Modeling (MATMECA) is a component of the Université Bordeaux 1. It delivers the title of Qualified engineer of the School of Engineers in Mathematical and Mechanical Modeling of the University Bordeaux 1".
School MATMECA has the principal role the initial training of engineers and researchers in modeling and digital simulation of mechanical phenomena.
It is located on the university Domaine of Pessac Talence Gradignan close to the physics laboratories and of mathematics to Bordeaux 1.
Great groups and research organizations are represented with the Council of the school, such as ECA, SNECMA, EADS, Communication & Systèmes, Michelin, French Petroleum Institute, Framatome…
1986: Creation of Magistère MATMECA
1997: Decree of enabling of the creation of the School of Engineers in Mathematical and Mechanical Modeling of the University Bordeaux 1 of November 18th, 1997
1997: The first two year old opening of training of Engineers to the re-entry 1997.
1999: The first eighteen Qualified engineers of the School of Engineers in Mathematical and Mechanical Modeling, July 5th, 1999.
1999-2000: Passage to a flow of 60 pupils - engineers in order to constitute a unit of formation of considerable size.
2004: Integration on the contest TELECOM-INT, member at the bank Mine-Bridges as from September 2005.
The school exempts theoretical knowledge in order to deal with complex problems of modeling. MATMECA attempts to meet the needs increasing for the companies of any sector for which modeling and digital simulation became essential.
Mechanics and mathematics applied are dominant, even if the formation is multi-field in Modeling and Digital simulation of physical phenomena.
School MATMECA gives a general training in Mechanics of the fluids, Mécanique of the solids, Ondes and vibrations, Mathématiques Applied, Scientific computation and Data-processing, engineerings, business management and languages.
Obtaining the diploma for the occupation of engineer requires three years of studies at the school.
The formation is organized according to a joint base which covers major the three years part. The first year is common to the whole of the pupils - engineers. The second year and the third year comprise a joint base and modules giving the possibility to the pupils of looking further into certain fields.
The optional choices in third year are not conceived as a specialization (it is not indicated on the diploma). Its subject thus does not engage in an irreversible way the professional future of the student in engineering. The project of end of studies in a company concludes the formation from the engineer.

Apart from the industrial training course of application, the pupils carry out an introductory course four weeks at the end of the first year.
The project of end of studies occupies the second half-year of the third year.

Experimental teaching is privileged to develop at the pupils the physical direction and to clarify the theoretical lesson. The control of the principal codes of simulation used in the companies is a top priority of practical works of data processing.
Lesson additional in Engineerings. The objective is to give the principal concepts in manufacture and design, measurements, in order to allow a dialog with specialists in these fields.
Lesson of knowledge and business management - Economy of the company, general ledger, cost accounting, great functions.
Lesson of Languages. The English is obligatory. A level of 550 with the examination of TOEFL or of 750 with TOEIC at the end of the 2nd year, is necessary for obtaining the title. A second language, German or Spaniard, are proposed to the pupils.
Optional modules are proposed in second year. They do not prejudge a choice of the student in engineering concerning the optional modules of third year. After the training course of application, the student in engineering will distinguish better his capacities and tastes from the point of view of his future activity.
Training seminars in Techniques of communication - Throughout the three years, a series of specific and coherent teaching actions includes/understands an initiation with the project control, with the control of meetings, the negotiations, the analysis of the costs, the concept of quality.
Projects. The formation privileges the personal projects; project of data processing of first year, Work of Studies and Search for 2nd year realized in one of the research laboratories of the School. The 3rd year grants the most significant part to the project of end of studies which leads to the drafting of a report of Engineer. This work is carried out within a company.
In-company trainings. 9 months of minimum training course are distributed over the 3 years: 1 month in 1st year (working training course), 2-3 month in 2nd year, 5-6 month in 3rd year. These training courses make it possible the student to confront the lesson received with the reality of the professional world. The training course of application is sanctioned by cards of appreciation of the tutor of training course in the company.
The Project of end of studies is five months a personal work full-time carried out in a company. The objective is the resolution of a real problem suggested by the company. The report gives place to a personal drafting of the student and a public defense which concludes the formation from the engineer.
Many associations are present in the school:
- The Office of Raised: it manages the organization of evenings/events within the school or outside, prepares the Weekend of Integration, holds the bar in the hearth of the pupils. Around the BDE organizes the various clubs of the school (Information, Cuisine, Jeux, Mangas, Cinéma, Vidéo, Musique, Théatre, Pétanques…)
- The Office of the Sports: This association deals of the sports activities on the campus and the meetings for the tournaments academic. It also organizes the Weekend with the Ski in the Pyrenees. All the sports are accessible thanks to this association.
- Official reception: The goal of this association coed is to prepare the official reception of the school where all the pupils and former students, as well as the administration of the school and the industrialists are invited. It is an event of mark where the suit and the evening gown are highly advised, for a meal of great kitchen, and an evening animated except standard.
- 4L Trophy: The students participating in this association are charged to prepare 4L to take part in a rally in Morocco with humane goal: to provide school material to the underprivileged schools.

- ADAM (Association Of the Old MATMECA): This association essential at any school of engineers makes it possible to the pupils to find training courses or employment thanks to the contacts of the former students already in station in large companies. It takes part largely in the image of the school.
