School of clock industry and mechanics of Saint-Imier

The school of Horlogerie of Saint-Imier was founded in 1866, on the initiative of the Jurassic Company of emulation. The first stolen one counts 3 pupils. The minimal age of admission was fixed at 14 years completed.

In 1896, it supplements its teaching by creating a school of Mécanique. In 1914, the most gifted pupils are invited to continue their studies in a new technical, driving division with the diploma for the occupation of technician.

In 1934, the clock making crisis makes feel its effects and manpower passes from 110 to 56 pupils. In 1935 a section of electricity opens whose activities are directed towards the low current.

In 1959, the school becomes cantonal Technicum of Saint-Imier.

In 1976, on decision of the Great Bernese Council, Technicum takes the name d´ École of engineers de Saint-Imier .
