School of International Interpreters
The École of international Interpreters of Mons (EII) is a school of translators and interpreters integrated at the same time into the Université of Mons-Hainaut (UMH) and into the High School of the French Community in Hainaut.
General information
Situation
The School of International Interpreters is located in the center of the town of Mons, in the province of Hainaut. It is located on the Campus of the Plain of the Université of Mons-Hainaut. Its exact address is: 17, avenue du field of Mars, B 7000 Mons, Belgium.
The school is accessible from the station and the center of the city thanks to a network of free buses which circulate all the day and stops in the vicinity. Road main roads are located in the vicinity, which makes the site easily accessible in the car. For foot, it is necessary to count 15-20 minutes to go from Large Places at the EII.
Buildings
The principal building of the EII contains the language laboratories, the interpreter's booths, the versatile room, the center cybermédia and the administrative services (secretariat, direction,…).
The courses are also exempted in several other buildings. Large the Amphitheaters and the B4 buildings and B5 of the University of Mons-Hainaut, as certain buildings of the Social School are thus used by the EII. The library and the university canteen, inter alia, are divided with the University of Mons-Hainaut, being given the particular status of the School of International Interpreters.
Inscription
The students wishing to be registered with the EII must have the Certificat of higher secondary education of the French Communauté of Belgium or a diploma is equivalent (e.g.: the baccalaureat French). A fascinating amount of money of account the totality of the exempted courses must also be versed.
Housing
Several possibilities are offered to the students eager to place in Mons, near the EII. In university residences, the Park and the Tripe shop, include/understand many individual residences which are rented at the year. Many private individuals also rent rooms (“Kot” in French of Belgium) or buildings for the groups of students.
Statute
The School of International Interpreters has a completely particular statute. It forms part at the same time of the University of Mons-Hainaut (without in being a faculty with whole share) and High School of Hainaut. That means in practice that the EII is neither a High School with whole share, nor a faculty of the University. That gives place to astonishing situations: whereas the EII and the UMH divide their buildings, the students of the EII are on vacation at the same time as the students of the other High Schools, privilege to which right the students of the UMH do not have.
The school is recognized by the International association of the interpreters of conference and belonged to the Conférence of the academic institutes of translators and interpreters, which confers an international repute to him.
Formation
Disciplines and lasted
The School of International Interpreters teaches two quite particular disciplines: the Translation and the Interpretation of conference. The duration of the studies with the EII is five years: 3 years of Baccalaureat (common to both disciplines) and two years of Master (in translation or interpretation).

The School of International Interpreters teaches seven basic languages as of the first year:

The student must, at the time of his inscription, to choose two languages (B and C, on an equal footing) among those quoted above. They will remain its principal languages during all the duration of the course.

One of the characteristics of the EII is that it is the only school in French Communauté of Belgium to propose the teaching of a Scandinavian language (Danish) as of the first year of Graduate .
French
A knowledge without fault of its native tongue being obligatory to become a good interprets/Traducteur, French is taught with the EII like a language with whole share lasting the first two years of Graduate. The Orthoepy, the Taken notes, the summary of texts, the composition and the analysis of text are with the program.
General courses
In order to perfect the general culture of the future translators/interpreters, many courses known as " généraux" are with the 5 years program of studies. Public international law, introductory courses to the Right, of commercial law, large artistic currents, of data processing, Sociology, scientific and technical problems, of encyclopedia of the translation, economic and social history, Linguistic, Philosophy, political economy are thus taught during the years of Graduate.
During Master, seminars of revision of texts and the training of the use of the tools for translation are also with the program.

Student's life
The extra-curricular activities organized for the students are very numerous. The General association of the Students of the EII deals with the organization (or supports) many events. Those are cultural (theater, cinema,…), sporting (skating rink, bowling, football, squash, 24 hour-bicycle,…), or simply student's. The EII is besides famous for its evenings with thême and other festivals which animate the nights of the students of the area of Mons. The departments Italian, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, English and German organize evenings with DJ preceded by a spectacle put in scene by the students; the OLD one organizes two evenings cabaret each year, with sketches during more than 2 hours; the Danish department prepares Gløgg, tasting of Danish hot wine; and all the school also meets for the international day, where culinary specialities of the four corners of the world are tasted.
