Schmilblick

Schmilblick was a television game daily, produced by Jacques Antoine and Jacques Solness, and adapted of their radio game Tirlipot.

Launched in September 1969 on the first chain of ORTF, the Schmilblick was animated by Guy Lux, and sometimes in interim by Solness itself. It was held in duplex of a different city each day, 18:30 with 19:00, with the collaboration of the local stations of ORTF and their organizers (and “téléspeakerines”).

Guy Lux, in his Parisian studio, assisted by “Jean-Marc”, the referee (equipped with some large books on the corner of the office), very presented a photograph in close-up of an object. The candidates asked him questions which it could answer yes or not. If the answer were positive, they could formulate a proposal and under were added in the kitty (in “old francs”, as it should be).

One remembers the multiple engineering problems due to the duplex, the fuzzy images, the unbearable verbosity of Guy Lux, and the difficulties of the candidates of pronouncing the word “Schmilblick”,… as many defects taken again by Coluche in his sketch “the schmilblick”, a parody which largely took part in the posthumous popularity of this play.

One has, there, one of the ancestors of the Jeux 20 hours (also creates by Jacques Solness). As for the principle even of the play - an object to be guessed - it gave place to multiple tele and radio variations until today.
