Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg

The House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg is resulting from the first branch of the Maison of Oldenbourg. The first duke of this line was Jean de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg wire of Christian III of Denmark.

The House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg gave rise to four branches:

  • Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Glücksbourg

  • Schleswig-Hosltein-Plön

  • Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Beck.

Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg

In 1651, Ernest Günther de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg made build the castle of Augustenbourg, this castle become the principal seat of the line, the name of Augustenbourg was added in the name of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg.

Frederic Auguste de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg proclaimed duke of the Schleswig-Holstein in 1863.

Dukes of the Schleswig-Holstein 1863 to 1931

The title of duke of the Schleswig-Holstein was carried by the dukes of Holstein-Glücksbourg.

Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Glücksbourg

This branch of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Glücksbourg was rested by the grandson of Christian III of Denmark, the duke Philippe de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Glücksbourg.

Into 1622 Jean de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg divided the duchy of the Schleswig-Holstein.

This line has as descendants Marguerite of Denmark, Harald V of Norway, Philip Mountbatten, Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom, Constantin II of Greece.
