Scatopsidae

The Scatopsidae are a family of Diptères Nematocera which includes/understands approximately 350 species described in the world, of which a hundred in Europe. They are small midges, generally of black color, which one can meet in very diverse mediums, often on flowers. The larval stages are saprophages, developing in matters in decomposition.

  • Coboldia fuscipes is the species most frequently observed in practically all the mediums. Transported involuntarily by the trade, it colonized all the continents. Its larvae can develop in a large variety of organic matters in decomposition, of animal or vegetable origin.
