Scar (King Lion)

Scar is a character of Lion drawn from the cartoon the King Lion of Disney.

Its name comes from English: “scar”, because of that which it raises to the left eye. Brother of Mufasa and uncle de Simba, it is the “malicious ” of the history. He joins the hyenas in order to take possession of the territory after being himself removed of the king and his heir.

In the original version of film, it is Jeremy Irons which lends her voice to him, and Jean Piat in the French version. The character has since fact of the appearances in other Disney productions. Inspired in particular of characters shakespeariens such as Iago or Richard III, with sometimes even of allusions to Adolf Hitler, Scar is regarded as one of the malicious most successful of the Disney productions.

In the musical comedy based on the original film, Scar is incarnated by a Acteur equipped with a African costume and carrying a face of lion to the top of the head. Scar means “Cicatrice” in English, it is the only character of the King Lion which bears a name which does not have a direction in Swahili. No explanation is given in films, but in the series of books written later: The King Lion: Six New Adventures , one sees that the initial name of Scar is Taka, which wants to say “dirtiness” or “refuse” in Swahili.

In has Bruises off Two Brothers ( the Enemy brothers ), one of the books of the series, Taka is opposed that his/her brother Mufasa was selected to be the heir with the throne and not him. It becomes even more annoyed when their father, King Ahadi, breaks his promise to go to drive out with him to try, in the place, to solve the problems of dryness of the kingdom. Taka leaves then with meeting hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and ED, which suggests the idea to him that if Mufasa is shown like weak and impotent, it will have chances then, in comparison, to appear in better position to take the throne.

Taka then deceives his/her brother by reducing it at the point from water, where a buffalo named Boma refuses to divide water. The Earth of the lions is during one time of terrible dryness and any water is invaluable. Mufasa starts to reason Boma, when Taka howls that Boma must move by order of King Lion, or that Mufasa will face it in combat. Boma, outgoing with water, charges Mufasa which escapes thanks to the mandrill Rafiki, but Boma affirms that its horde will have Taka then. Mufasa reconsiders its steps and discovers Taka attacked by the herd of Boma. Largest of the buffaloes Taka with its horns strikes, making him lose consciousness. Mufasa jumps in the fray to save his/her brother of the buffaloes which are ready to attack again. Before they can do it, however, Ahadi appears with many animals. The herd surrounds the buffaloes and gains the combat. Later, Rafiki examining Taka, discovers a deep notch to him on the left eye, which cannot be entirely cured and it will keep the scar. Taka then requires henceforth to be made call “Scar” to remember the stupid way in which it let anger dominate it. But why in English, one still does not know it. In swahili scar says “Kovu”, name which is given to the adoptive son and to heir to Scar in the King Lion 2: Honor of the tribe .

  • Scar makes a short and dumb appearance in an episode of the Televised series: Tiller and Pumbaa (1995-1999) in which Timon tries to restore the failing memory of Pumbaa.

  • It also briefly appears in another televised series: House off Foam (2001-2003).
  • Another appearance of Scar is in the cartoon Hercules (1997) just as a skin of lion, similar to the Lion of Némée. In this particular scene, Hercules carries the skin of Scar whereas it poses to be made do one carried by a painter. It is possible that it was a private joke of the organizer Andreas Deja supervising the character of Scar, which was also the organizer charged to supervise Hercules.
  • It still appears as one of the gangsters that the queen evokes to fight the mouse of Mickey in the version of studios of Disney-MGM of Fantasmic! Nighttime Spectacular Show.
  • Scar is one of the principal characters of the Festival off the Lion King , an attraction of Disney' S Animal Kingdom and HongKong Disneyland. In this adaptation shortened of musical of Broadway, the character is interpreted by an actor as in the musical comedy, just as in the attraction of Disneyland Paris: the legend of the King Lion .

In addition to appearances in various video games on the King Lion , Scar is present in Kingdom Hearts II , very popular play Disney/Square Enix.
