Scale of TORRO

The scale of TORRO ( TORRO scale or T-Scale in English) is a scale to measure the intensity of the Tornade S. Graduée between T0 and T11, it was developed by Terence Meaden of the Tornado and Storm Research Organization (TORRO), a British weather organization, like an extension of the scale of Beaufort.

The scale was tested of 1972-1975 and was made public at a meeting of the Royal Meteorological Society in 1975. The T0 level is the equivalent of level 8 on the scale of Beaufort and is dependant has the latter (B) by the formula:

B = 2 ( T + 4)

and conversely:

T = ( B /2 - 4)

This scale remains less used than the scale of Fujita.
