The clouded scale or callimorphe ( Euplagia quadripunctaria ) is a butterfly Arctiidae.
It is a butterfly of wood lights and Broussaille S which steals as well during the day as the night.
winged Form: of at the beginning of July at September. Only one generation.
Caterpillar: black, hairy, with broad band yellow dorsal and pale side spots. She lives on herbaceous pantes like the Lamier, the Sauge of the meadows but also of the woody plants like the Framboisier and the Chèvrefeuille of the hedges.
Hibernation: in the form of young person caterpillar in the low vegetation.

This butterfly is reproduced on an emission of the island of Jersey of 1991 (facial value: 20 p.).
Painting
It would seem that a clouded scale is represented on the right leg of Venus of table " Venus and Mars" of the painter Piero di Cosimo, about 1490.
