Sayyid
Sayyid (sayyid, rear RTL سيد, pl. sāda, rear RTL سادة, going down from the prophet; lord ) is an honorary title often given for Musulman S of high ranking. The word means literally lord or prince and is traditionally used to refer to those which are claimed descendant of Mahomet by his/her daughter Fatima Zahra and his/her cousin and son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib.

There are two types of Sayyid:
- Hassani, descendants of Hassan Al-Mujtaba ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib;
- Husayni, descendants of Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib.
The sayyid profit from a special tax, Khums , raised by a law of the Shiite Charia designed to prevent the financial problems and to maintain their dignity. They are regarded as spiritual and social authorities, in particular in the Moslem companies Iran ienne and Indian. This title was also used in its nonliteral form for important Moslems, such as Moqtada al-Sadr in Iraq.
