The saxophone baritone is a Musical instrument with wind, category of the wood, among the tessitures more serious of the family of the saxophones.

The saxophone baritone, in E flat , an octave in lower part of the Alto saxophone, makes it possible to play, according to the models, since the the or the serious si♭ (under the range) until the acute fa♯ (above the carried). However, some Musicien S manage to reach higher notes called Suraigu are. The baritone is distinguished from the other saxophones from the end close to the mouth which comprises a loop, which makes it possible the instrument to preserve a reasonable height. Another characteristic is the tact which comprises an additional key making it possible to reach the the serious , corresponding to serious C of the violoncello (other instruments being satisfied to go down until the si♭ ).

The important weight of the instrument makes that the instrumentalists generally have recourse to a special harness in the place of the simple cordelière used for the lighter instruments.

He is little used in the symphony orchestras, one can quote all the same the Symphonie No 4 of Charles Ives, composed in 1910-16. The same its repertory solo is not very wide. It on the other hand is very much used in the orchestras of harmony, the orchestras military and the Big Band where it plays a part of rhythm section.
