old Saxony-Cobourg Principality saxonne, formed of the territory of Cobourg and which belonged, from 1347, with the Wettin and, after the division of 1485, with the Ernestine branch of this house. Constituted in principality in 1572 in favor of Jean-Frederic the Mediator, oldest son of Jean-Frederic Magnanime (elder line), it returned, for lack of descendants, in the line junior and was incorporated in the goods of Ernest Ier the Pile, duke of Saxony-Gotha (1640-1675). It passed to its second wire, Albert (1680-1699); this last not having had children, Saxony-Cobourg, disputed a long time, returned finally to his/her last brother, prince of Saxony-Saalfeld since 1680; thus the principality of Saxony-Cobourg-Saalfeld was constituted (1714).
Simple: Saxony-Coburg
