Saxon-Sion

Saxon-Sion is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.

Geography

History

Saxon-Sion has on its territory the hill of Sion which inspired Maurice Barrès for his novel the hill inspired . An old worship marial is celebrated on the hill, on which was built the Basilique Notre-Dame of Sion.

Celtic avaint formerly established on the hill, a high place of worship. At the time of Pax Romana, the rites are tournerent towards Latin goddesses. The arrival of Christianity gently made transpose the important worship of a goddess in that of the Virgin Mary.

The fire of the bell-tower of the basilica

The November 8th 2003, a fire due to a Short-circuit electric devastation the bell-tower of the Basilica requiring the demounting of a gigantic statue representing the Virgin Mary. In 2006, the restoration of this basilica was always in building site.
