Around SAW II
Precision on the title (English pun)
Saw II is the continuation of Saw (whose French translation could correspond at the same time to the verb " scier" , of English " to saw" , but also with the verb " regarder" verb " to see" combined with the preterite), one of greatest business successes of horror film.
To go further in the play
Oren Koules, one of the producers of Saw II , explains why the will to give rise to one following summer caused by the request of the public. " From the exit of first film, each time we went some share, everyone required when and how would return the Killer to the puzzle" , he explains. " For the public, the fascination exerted by this character could not be satisfied of only one film. One of the first stakes had been to discover which it was, the following was of knowing until where it was able to go and why… " Mark Burg, also producing, looks further into this reflection: " What had occurred in first film obliged us to go further, as well in the situations as in the way in which it are arranged to serve the mysterious intentions of this criminal. It was necessary new stakes, new adversaries, new victims and especially, new tests for him… "
More than one simple sadist
The coproducer Gregg Hoffman, when it approaches the scenaristic structure of film, also tests himself with a definition of the Killer to the puzzle: " There are several reading levels in this film. Suspense exists on several axes which intersect and are reinforced. Each victim is confronted with tests but these situations, strong in themselves, fall under a remarkably structured unit. The Killer with the puzzle is not a simple sadist, he continues a precise plan and finally, one wonders whether he does not have fun more to handle people that to push them beyond their limites."
