Savukoski

Savukoski is a common Is Finnish Lapland, at the border of the Russia. It is the commune of Finland for which the population density is lowest. It counts just 1.300 inhabitants out of 6.500 km ², and ten times more Renne S in extensive breeding. The commune, which has the shape of rectangle of 70 km out of 100 km, is very mainly made up of wild zones. It is rather undulating, cash of many hills (Tunturi S) of altitude higher than 400 meters, vestiges of the old mounts Carélides. One finds there the source of the powerful river Kemijoki. The municipality is still largely at the variation of the principal tourist areas of Lapland even if tourism experiences a constant development there.

The close municipalities are Salla, Pelkosenniemi and Sodankylä

Savukoski counts an inhabitant of mark, the Father Christmas, which when it is not present at his office of Rovaniemi, resides on the wild and withdrawn site of the Korvatunturi at the Russian border.
