Savoy hotel

The Hôtel Savoy is a hotel five-stars located on The Strand at London, in England. Inaugurated in 1889, it was built by Richard D' Oyly Carte, the owner of the Savoy Theater located not far from there. It is today one of most prestigious and the most luxurious hotels of London with its 230 rooms. Its name comes from the Palate of Savoy, which occupied the places before. It was directed initially by César Ritz, which became thereafter the founder of the hotels Ritz. The hotel was drawn by the architect T.E. Collcutt, which also conceived Wigmore Hall. Bought in the beginning in order to build an electric generator to illuminate the close theater, Savoy Theater, the hotel was the first public building in the world with being enlightened with electricity.

Savoy was known a long time for its chief S creative. Its kitchens saw the invention of the Peach Melba, created in the honor of Madam Nellie Melba by the famous French chief Auguste Escoffier. The Melba toast is also allotted to the kitchens of the hotel; it is said that Nellie Melba ordering a toast, one served several crusty pieces abnormally fine and, almost flarings to him, thus creating a new dish.

One of the curiosity of the Savoy hotel, is that the street which carries out to it (Savoy Court) is the only street of the the United Kingdom where the vehicles must run on the right. It is told that dates from the time when the driver of carriage brought their customers to the hotel. To roll on the right enabled them to avoid going down to open the door with their passengers

Claude Monet and James Whistler has all two placed with the hotel and painted sights of the the Thames since their rooms.

In 2005, Savoy was repurchased with the Maybourne Hotel group (known under the name of The Savoy Group ), by the Canadian group Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.

Savoy Pier is located close to the entry of the hotel side river, but is not attached to the hotel. It constitutes a stop of the Thames Clipper to commutate service , connecting Savoy to London, Canary Wharf and Greenwich, via a river shuttle service.
