Savor of the year
Name savor of the year is a sign of French quality independent given each year to approximately 160 agro-alimentary products (within a nomenclature which includes/understands 222 categories of products covering the whole of the existing offer). It was created in 1997 by Monadia, private company specialized in the evaluation of products by the consumers themselves.
Methodology
The prize list is guided only by the gustatory quality perceived by the consumers. The evaluated criteria are the Goût, the aspect of the product, the odor, texture. Neither the ingredients and their proportion in the product, neither the origin, nor the schedule of conditions of production enter in account. The classification is established starting from notes given by 120 consumers during gustatory tests “blind” (without knowing the mark). The number of tasters corresponds to the double of the sample recommended by the Association of Coordination of the Techniques for Agribusiness industry (ACTIA) so that the results of tests are significant.
These monadic tests are organized in laboratories of sensory Analyze respecting standard AFNOR XPV at least 09-500.
For the edition 2007, Monadia organized 62.225 tests (source Fairesavoirfaire- November 2006) with 12.445 consumers, at a rate of 5 products maximum (Standards ACTIA) noted per each consumer-tester.
Criticisms
Savor of the year is a concept marketing. The inscription is free: the manufacturers must take part in the expenses of the sensory analyzes carried out.The preceded products then put this sign ahead on their packing and their communication campaigns.
Assets
The cost of access is lower than certifications of State. The new products can thus try to be prevailed of a label recognized by the public with a budget of participation lower than that which would have been necessary to obtain a certification of State.
Limits
Only the registered products are judged to contribute to the distinction. The classification is then not exhaustive.Name was condemned in 2003 by the Court of Bankruptcy of Versailles to have used the word “label” in a slogan, name of which the use is strictly limited to the official initials in the agroalimentary field.
