Savigny-Lévescault or Savigny-l' Évescault is a common French, located in the department of the Vienna and the area Poitou-Charentes. Its inhabitants is called the Savignois .

Denomination

In the absence of decree of renaming, Savigny-Lévescault remains the official name of the commune, as preserved by the geographical official Code of INSEE. But employment should be noted running, in the department of Vienna, the alternative C-W communication Savigny-l' Évescault .

Geography

It is a village of the Canton of Saint-Julien-the Ars located at 11 km of Poitiers.

Common brood between main roads 151 in north and 147 in the south, located at equal distance of Poitiers and Chauvigny, installed on the plains argilo-limestones between the rivers of Clain and the Vienna, Savigny shelters 994 inhabitants on a surface of 2200 hectares at an altitude of 135 meters. Savigny is a suburban commune.

The pond of the village, bordered of poplars, attracts the amateurs of fishing as much as the flaneurs. It is also very gravitational from its proximity of Poitiers.

History

The village would date from XIIe century and was called Saviniaco. The origin of this term would be the name of the Latin man Sabinius and Acum suffix. Also, the name of Savigny could come from sabin, Italic people near of Latin, come to fight battle as a Gaulle, where some had established a camp very close to the current borough, in Carthage. The term Evescault recalls that the bishops of Poitiers had grounds there.
