Savigna
Savigna is a common French, located in the south of the department of the the Jura and thus in the southernmost part of the area Franche-Comté.
Geography
The rural district of Savigna is located in the country of the Petite Mountain, in the basin of Valouse, halfway between Orgelet and Arinthod. It is made up of 3 hamlets: Savigna, Ugna and Givria.Nearly 100 ha of forests, in majority of the leafy trees, occupy its territory. In addition to Valouse, its principal affluent, Valouson, also crosses this commune.
History
The village was in the past called Savigna-lez-Ugna. The origin of the name would come from Latin Sabinus and the suffix - iacum (indicating the membership of a field to a man), Sabiniacum probably indicates an agricultural domain given to a former legionary.The first known mention of the existence of the village dates from the 13th century. It was separated from the seigniory of Nancuise with 18th. The communes of Givria and Ugna were plain in Savigna in 1822.
