History
The origin of its name would come from Villarem Saviniacum which means villa of Savinius. Located on the Roman way Mans - Évreux, villarem Saviniacum is évangélisé at the 4th century by saint Julien, first bishop of Mans. Its successors obtain the seigniory of Savigné:- - Parrochia de Savigneio Episcopi (1254);
- - then Savigni Evesque (1314).
The bishops of Mans had the manor of Touvoie there, chief town of their feudal temporality, from where Savigné-l' Bishop. An ancient way takes the title of royal road in 1734. A relay of station is established in the borough. A royal terminal is always present in the center of the commune. On this road, in the crossing of the borough, fits with body it of Mister de Montesson was reversed by Savignéens with the Revolution.
In 1790, Savigné becomes chief town of canton and is renamed Savigné-lès it Mans in 1793.
Many manors testify to a last rich person.
Fatherland of the horse, Savigné owes its fame since nearly one century with the Stud farm of Mesnil. The Stud farm of Mesnil accepted the visit of the Queen of England in 1967 to have lodged its horse.
Savigné undergoes three occupations: in 1815, then in 1870 and 1940. In 1870, the battle of Mans takes place to the doors of Savigné.
During the Second world war, Savigné is released by the Americans on July 8th, 1944.
