Sault ( Jump in Occitan Of Provence) is a common French, located in the department of Vaucluse and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

The village is in the east of the Mont Ventoux and in the North-East of the Monts of Vaucluse. It is posed on a calcareous plate in limit of the Plateau of Albion, between stones, drills (of which forest of Défens, wood of Roumigières and wood of Fayettes) and fields of Lavande.

Access

Village leaves and arrive of many roads: The secondary roads 942 and 164 in north, the secondary road 943 in the south, the secondary road 1 in the west and the secondary roads 30 and 950 in the east.

Relief and geology

Plates limestones of an average altitude of 1000 meters.

The most point is the collar of Frache to 1575 meters, in the western north of the commune, on the buttresses of the Mont Ventoux.

History

Its etymology comes from " Saltus ", because of the forests which covered its territory formerly.

The seigniory of Sault, old county of Sault, belonged to Agoult, one of the four big families of Provence (Villeneuve, of Agoult, and Castellane).

Set up in county (1561) in favor of François d' Agoult

A long time, the intendants were the Morard family (related in Agoult and Villeneuve), family which comes from Draguignan.

During the wars of religion, the Protestant inhabitants of Forcalquier try an attack on the city, which fails, in 1575.

The school of resistance and an elementary school and nursery school. The hamlet of Midsummer's Day de Sault had formerly its own school, closed for lack of manpower and regrouping.

The College of the country of Sault serves the communes of the plate and these surroundings.
