Saturday evening, dimande morning (Saturday Night and Sunday Morning) is a British film carried out by Karel Reisz and left in 1960.

Synopsis

In the Years 1960, with Nottingham, Arthur, a 24 year old workman, the come weekend, is dazed in the pubs to forget its precarious social condition in spite of its conscientious work with the factory. As of saturdays, the beer runs with floods for him and its buddies. Its mistress, Brenda, a woman older than and marry to him of one of her colleagues, is very attached to him. But Arthur is attracted soon by an young girl of its age, Doreen, a new relation which causes to break with its dull daily newspaper. On these entrefaites, Brenda, announces to him that it is pregnant and requests its financial aid to be made fall through. She discovers incidentally that it is now in love with another woman and Arthur will have to face new difficulties which will accentuate its existential anguish…

Point of view of criticism

  • Claude Beylie: Karel Reisz gave from the start the best of this “cinema of proletarians” a little quickly qualified Marxist under pretext than it disputed the Establishment. It was less than one lawsuit about the working condition (certainly described without make-up), that of a cordial and, altogether, nostalgic evocation of England in process of extinction, that of the peaceful family meetings, smoked out pubs and Sunday exits with bicycle, as John Ford had been able to film it. One will undoubtedly have poetry, somewhat carbonaceous, stump inclinations of “realism” of film and ageing preserves it, which did not save works, more ambitious, of the fellow-members of Reisz.
