Sathonay-Village is a common French, located in the department of the the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.

The inhabitants of Sathonay-Village are called Sathonards.

Geography

History

The commune of Sathonay-village included in the department of the Rhone since 1968 only, formed before part of the Canton of Trévoux in the Ain.

Its strategic position was worth tormented an enough history to him. Indeed, near to the the Saone, at the end of the plains of the Ain and the Dombes, but also not far from Lyon, it was with the junction of two territories: the Lyons Franc and the field of the Empire. It thus changed often hands.

In 1230, Humbert de Montluel has grounds with Sathonay, which it holds in Fief with the Abbaye of the Island Beard.

To the 13th century, the Seigneurie of Sathonay belonged to the Seigneur S of the same name, then the Ferlay family succeeded to them XIVe and 15th century.

Its Blazon, black with the money cross became that of Sathonay-camp.

Several of its sons were Moine S with the Abbaye of the Island Beard, its suzerain. The lord of Ferlay was then vassal Dolphin of Viennese who made gift of Sathonay to the king Philippe VI of Valois in 1342, which exchanged in his turn with the Duc of Savoy in 1354. Louis XI, in Guerre against the Duc of Savoy made devastate Sathonay and its strong Château of Rivery in 1469. This Château builds at the 13th century was strengthened with crenel, enclosing walls, rampart S, Fossé S, Pont-levis. Taken, destroyed and rebuilt several times, it disappeared little from time before the Révolution.

Sathonay passed then with hand in hand and was plain with the Marquisat of Miribel set up in favor of Henriette of Savoy in 1579. Sathonay-in-Bresse, which becomes Baronnie, still changes several times of owner, when Jean-Claude Fay acquires it in 1757. The blazon of the Fay family, of azure with a greyhound money looking at a gold sun, is the emblem of Sathonay-village today.

In 1851, the marshal of Castellane, installs a military camp on the plate covered of Pâturage S, located at the south of the commune which knows a which gallops evolution, the Abbé Faivre, chaplain of the camp creates “the work of the little girls of the soldier” in the castle offered by the family of Virieu (downward of Fay) and which dates from the 16th century. Directed by the sisters saint Charles, work will become “the house of children” managed today by Laïc S.

The Romance church of the 13th century, placed under the term of the St. Lawrence is too small. One builds of them another in 1862 and 1867.

The neighborhoods of the camp form a small town with trade, workmen, families of soldiers. The village remained rural.

If the ravine delimits the two parts of Sathonay, a ditch separates their opinions and interests. The rupture is consumed, and on April 4th 1908 one attends the births of Sathonay-camp and Sathonay-village. Since passions calmed down and the two communes are closely dependant.

In 1952, the common one acquires of the castle built in 1870 per Oscar Galline and which was had by the families of Bernis and St Guilhem. It installs there the Mairie in 1965.

Village at last century, primarily agricultural (Vine S, truck farming, Cereal S), Sathonay-village becomes now residential, but there can remain close to the nature which surrounds it agreeably and takes care to keep an human dimension.
