History

In 1230, Humbert de Montluel has grounds with Sathonay, which it holds in Fief with the Abbaye of the Island Beard.

To the 13th century, the Seigneurie of Sathonay belonged to the Seigneur S of the same name, then the Ferlay family succeeded to them XIVe and 15th century.

Its Blazon, black with the money cross became that of Sathonay-camp.

Several of its sons were Moine S with the abbey of the Island Beard, its suzerain. The lord of Ferlay was then vassal Dolphin of Viennese who made gift of Sathonay to the king Philippe VI of Valois in 1342, which exchanged in his turn with the Duc of Savoy in 1354. Louis XI, in Guerre against the Duc of Savoy made devastate Sathonay and its strong Château of Rivery in 1469. This Château builds at the 13th century was strengthened with crenel, enclosing walls, rampart S, Fossé S, Pont-levis. Taken, destroyed and rebuilt several times, it disappeared little from time before the Révolution.

Sathonay passed then with hand in hand and was plain with the Marquisat of Miribel set up in favor of Henriette of Savoy in 1579. Sathonay-in-Bresse, which becomes Baronnie, still changes several times of owner, when Jean-Claude Fay acquires it in 1757. The blazon of the Fay family, of azure with a greyhound money looking at a gold sun, is the emblem of Sathonay-village today.

In 1851, the marshal of Castellane, installs a military camp on the plate covered of Pâturage S, located at the south of the commune which knows a which gallops evolution, the Abbé Faivre, chaplain of the camp creates “the work of the little girls of the soldier” in the castle offered by the family of Virieu (downward of Fay) and which dates from the 16th century. Directed by the sisters saint Charles, work will become “the house of children” managed today by Laïc S.

The camp is created definitively in 1858 with hutments out of wooden and brick. The neighborhoods of the camp form a small town with trade, workmen, families of soldiers. The village remained rural.

If the ravine delimits the two parts of Sathonay, a ditch separates their opinions and interests. The rupture is consumed, and on April 4th 1908 one attends the births of Sathonay-camp and Sathonay-village. Since passions calmed down and the two communes are closely dependant.

In 1908, the Senate votes separation into two of Sathonay: the Camp and the Village. Ten years later, in 1918, the Council of State statue definitively on the methods of separation.

If that were not enough the Parc to the Head of Gold of Lyon is at 10 minutes.
