Satellite mobile Ventures

Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) is a American Entreprise specialized in the supply of services of Télécommunications. MSV is one of the leading vendors of departments of communication satellite wireless telegraphy by in North America. The company develops a project of civil mobile services based on a hybrid network of new generation combining a space infrastructure and a terrestrial radio infrastructure.

Its trade, its customers (currently)

MSV operates in the sector of communication and information technologies (TIC). Within this sector, MSV belongs to the die of the service providers of telecommunications, also called operators.

Its customers include all kinds of companies or administrations: Civil security, organizations first-aid, emergency services, national defense, coastguard, police force, road transport, railway companies, development companies of gas and oil, marinade, public services…

The company provides them various telecommunication services without wire (mobile dated, voice and fax) starting from a satellite infrastructure of network.

Current mode of exploitation

MSV provides services mobile dated, voice and fax with approximately 30,000 units via channels of distribution which include direct sales forces, wholesalers and retailers. Many of these users are government agencies at the local level, the level of the states, or the federal level, which are in load of public safety. These customers depend very largely on the service of MSV in their operation with the daily newspaper and for the emergencies.

In addition to providing services to its direct principal customers, MSV also sells of satellite capacity on the intermediate market to service providers partners for specific services. MSV fournirt thus of the services to approximately 170.000 additional units in an indirect way. The majority of these users are managers of fleet and companies wishing to carry out the follow-up of goods and cargoes, like Geologic Solutions, Inc., Wireless Matrix Corporation, Transcore Holdings, Inc. and SkyBitz, Inc.

MSV provides its services to Etata-Plain and Canada by using two geostationary satellites (GEO) almost identical MSAT-1 and MSAT-2, which support the transmission of the voice, data, of fax, and of the services of radio dispatch. The first satellite is located at 101° WL. The second satellite, which belonged before to a subsidiary company of Bell Canada Enterprise (BCE) and which belongs now to MSV, is located at 106,5° WL. MSV lays out of a center of supervision of the active network 24:00 /24 and 7J/7 ensuring an availability of 99,9%.

MSAT (" Satellite" mobile;) is a satellite system conceived by the National council of Research in Canada. In partnership with several companies in the United States and in North America, MSAT ensures also the diffusion of differential signals GPS Canada (CDGPS - Canada-Wide total Differential positioning system).

Coverage area: North America, northern part of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and water coastal

Strategic development plan

MSV holds a license in the United States and Canada to exploit part of the spectrum located in the band " L" (approximately 30MHz) coordinated for a use in the United States and Canada.

The spectrum of MSV is located between the frequencies used today by the terrestrial service providers without wire at the United States and Canada. In the future mode of exploitation, MSV envisages to allocate the use of the spectrum between the satellite service and a terrestrial wireless networking which it will integrate with its satellite network. It will be the first project of mobile services civil having recourse at the same time to space and terrestrial elements.

MSV is the first service provider mobiles by satellites to have received the licenses necessary of the authority national of regulation (the FCC) to be able to exploit a complementary terrestrial component (Ancilliary Terrestrial Components, ATC). These licenses allow the use of the satellite frequencies of the band " L" for the exploitation of a advanced integrated network able to provide services high banc without wire to fixed units, portable and mobile.

MSV envisages to launch 3 satellites: MSV-1 (the United States), MSV-2 (Canada) and a little later MSV-SA (Latin America). These satellites will be, according to the company, the commercial satellites most imposing and most powerful ever deployed, multi-beams with re-use of frequencies, and allowing the establishment of communications starting from conventional cell phones apart from the coverage areas. The network will join together best satellite and cellular technologies, with a complementary terrestrial component (Ancilliary Terrestrial Components, ATC) patented by MSV. It will be able to meet the needs for communication of a large variety of customers.

This hybrid network of new generation, able to cover the entirety of the market Nord-Américain (330 million people) is developed by MSV with a certain number of partners leaders of industry:

  • Of the operators télécoms,
  • Specialized companies in manufacture and the launching of satellites, in particular Boeing
  • Equipment suppliers in telecommunications, in particular Nortel for technologies 4G WiMax and Multi-media IP Subsystem (IMS).
