Sassandra
Sassandra is a town of Ivory Coast, at the edge of the Golfe of Guinea to the mouth of the river Sassandra.
History
The first Europeans appear in the Golfe of Guinea at the end of the 15th century: they are navigators Portuguese, whose intentions at the time were completely peaceful. Thus, in 1471, Joao de Santarem and Pedro de Escobar double the course of the palms and reach a river to which they give the name of San Andréa (which will be deformed then in Sassandra) like to the village located at her mouth.
In the years 1960, the port of the city was competed with by the new port of San-Pedro.
Economy
The fishing remains an important activity there. She is in particular exerted by an important Ghanaian community , in particular Fanti.Education
Administration
A law of 1978 instituted 27 communes of full exercise on the territory of the country.
