Sasmira

Sasmira is a series of Cartoon completely realized by Laurent Vicomte and published by Humanoïdes Associés.

The first volume, the Call , is appeared in September 1997. Waited since several years, it met a great public success and was rewarded in many festivals for cartoon.

Since this date, volume 2, the Wrong note , never left, although announced several times. No date of publication is to date advanced.

Topics

an old woman dies gently under a porch of the Island of the City. While answering its strange petition, Stan does not imagine only it embraque for a strange voyage, on the traces of mysterious Sasmira.

Time, the obsession of a face and quiet fascination for a woman are among the topics which soutendent the first album of Sasmira . Concerned with the fantastic Realism, this album singularly dissociates nevertheless basic codes of this kind by the smoothness and the skill of the treatment of the topic of the voyage in time, and by the care granted to the setting in scene and the progressive deployment of the intrigue, all in silences and glances.

At the end of this opus, all the questions developed by the installation of the universe and the protagonists are put, ready to be solved, thus leaving the reader suspended with the intrigue and the hypothetical publication of volume 2.

  • Laurent Vicomte spent nine years to conceive the series Sasmira and to carry out this first album. It is famous to be one of the authors of the Franco-Belgian cartoon slowest and meticulous person with the work. According to certain sources, it would have written the entirety of the scenario of the series, cut out into 4 or 5 volumes, well before the publication of the Call .
  • the silence of the author, the lack of information around the series and its future and waiting prolonged more and more of the second album - soon ten years - make this series a single case in the history of the Franco-Belgian cartoon, where the rates/rhythms of publication between two albums oscillate between one to three years.
  • In 2005 is appeared with the editions Daniel Maghen Virages , a bibliographical work devoted to the work of Laurent Vicomte, gathering several pages of new sketches and some boards of volume 2.
