Sasak
The Sasak are the ethnicity most important of Lombok, one of Small the Îles of the Probe in Indonesia. They were some 2 million in 1977.
Sasak are concentrated in one the central third of the island. They practice a Agriculture Subsistance with bottom of Riz, Café, Coconut and Canne with sugar.
The ceremony of the Bau Nyale , which is held about February or March, is an example of the traditional beliefs of Sasak, in particular of the center of Lombok. By this ceremony, the peasants ask God to give them enough rain so that their Rizière S can give beautiful harvests. It consists in gathering to wait to raise it day and the appearance of the nyale , a species of marine worm which lives under the corals and shows itself only at dawn, after strong rains.
The language sasak belongs to the group known as " Bali - sasak" Austronesian branch of the Languages austronésiennes.
