Sart-Lady-filberts

Geography

The land register divides the Sart-Lady-Filbert territory into seven sections: the Field Hulet, Piraumont, the Padrie Field, the Crook, Thil, the Wood of the Hut and the Heather.

This important village offers to agriculture the fertile plains southernmost and Western parts of its territory, but, with the accesses of the church where the ground rises with 128 meters and towards the " Marais" , the relief becomes very broken and gullied, presenting sometimes rocky fast slopes.

History

The villages of the area were divided by the large abbeys: Sart-ladies did not escape from this rule since it belonged to the grounds exploited by the abbeys of Villers and from Affligem. After many dissensions, Villers and Affligem proceeded, in 1235, with an exchange of their goods.

At the end of the 18th Century, the current village was born from the fusion of the commune of Sart-Lady-Filberts (old dependence of the castle of Houtain-the-Valley) and of the commune of Thill (all sections of the current land register to the exeption of that of the Crook and the village). It is the river laughed at Pre at the Willows which was used as limit between the communes.

At the beginning of the 19th century, one counted three breweries, two distillings, three mills with oil and two water mills. At that time, almost all the workmen of the commune were masons or brick-makers and did not hesitate to export their know-how abroad.

Others

Important a water table is exploited by the regional company of water supply and Culligan. The castles of the Heather, Cocriamont, the Hut and Jumerée are located on the territory of the village.
