Sarnen is a commune Suisse, capital of the canton of Obwald.

Geography

The city is located on Aa de Sarnen, at the septentrional end of the lake of Sarnen.

History

Depending at the beginning on XIe century on the abbeys on Lenzbourg and Beromünster, the locality passed under the control of the family of Lautenberg, which, at the beginning of XIIIe century made raise a castle on the hill which bears this name.
