Sarmizegetusa
Sarmizegetusa , quoted set up in the mounts Orăştie, close to Hunedoara, in the Area of current Transylvania, was the capital of the Daces under the reign of Décébale. The Roman Emperor Trajan made a long seat in of it 101 - 102 in his first countryside against Décébale.
Sarmizegetusa consisted of constructions considered insuperable, built in the mountains, to resist the attack of the Romains. It had a military, spiritual and political function, and was surrounded by a whole of other cities, with which it communicated by small mountain roads. It comprised also several crowned zones, and the calendar. The civilians lived all around the city. The noble ones had running water in the houses, and had a high standard of living.
Built in top of a 1200 meters height rock, it was made up of 6 citadels (Blidaru, Piatra Roşie, Costeşti, Căpâlna and Baniţa). The principal fortress was made of four blocks out of massive stone and occupied five terraces, on a surface of 30.000 square meters. Around, on a broad area (of more than 500 km ²), there was here and there, of the fortifications, the small forts and the turns of observation.
After the Roman conquest, the capital of the province Dacia Felix was transferred to Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, located beside the current city Haţeg (at a distance of 40 km of the old Sarmizegetusa city).
The city could have been a capital Sarmates several centuries before our era and the name would be connected with that of Sermizelles in France meaning the mountain (uza) in Sarmates.
