Sarine

The Sarine (in German die ) is a Rivière of Suisse which longitudinally crosses the Canton of Freiburg. Its source is located at the Col of Sanetsch on the commune of Savièse (Northern of Sion, in Valais).

It runs out towards north until Gstaad then towards the west through the Pays of Enhaut. With Montbovon, it takes again the direction of north until the Lac of the Gruyere. Then it runs until Freiburg, which was built inside a Méandre. Always northern direction where it recrosses a lake artificel, that of Schiffenen, before throwing itself in the Aar in lower part of Bern. It also forms, partly, the linguistic border of the area, separating the French-speaking Switzerland French-speaking, in the west, of the German-speaking Switzerland German-speaking, in the east. The phrase " in addition to Sarine" thus usually indicate the German-speaking Switzerland.

Sarine gave its name to the one of the seven districts of the canton of Freiburg.
