Sarah Kane

Biography

Sarah Kane , British Playwright , was born the February 3rd 1971 with Essex and died the February 20th 1999. She studied the theater at the University of Bristol, of which she was brilliantly graduate, then at the University of Birmingham. Its parts caused a scandal with the Royal Short Theater, and in particular Blasted ( Anéantis ), which evoked in a raw way and surprising violence of the current world through a history between a grisonnant journalist and a naive young girl of which he misuses. The interest of the part lies in the bringing together between violence “moral” and close to the scene of hotel, and the remote violence of the Guerre of Bosnia which makes irruption in the part in the person of a young disillusioned soldier. Criticisms overpowered the part and its author (“the work of a suicidal and frustrated teenager”), in spite of the support of many artists and in particular of Edward Bond and Harold Pinter.

She is also the auteure of Phaedra' S Love ( love of Phèdre ), Cleansed ( Purifiés ), Crave ( Manque ) and 4.48 Psychosis ( 4.48 Psychosis ) - where she delivers herself more than ever. The title refers to 4:48 of the morning, hour when it awoke and where despair was done most extremely.

Sarah Kane committed suicide at the 28 years age (while hanging itself with its laces in the toilets of a hospital) in 1999, one year before the exit of 4.48 Psychosis . For a few years, several critics have badly admitted having judged Sarah Kane and its parts know a new passion.

4.48 Psychosis was recently played Lyon with the Popular National theater, completely interpreted by Isabelle Huppert.
