Offered to the emperor in 712, the Kojiki (古事記, Chronic of the old facts ) is regarded as the oldest written work of the Japan which reached us.

They are the accounts of the storyteller Hieda No Are (稗田阿礼) retranscribed by the scribe O No Yasumaro (太安万侶) on the order of the empress Gemmei (元明天皇). It is composed of three volumes, the first reporting creation of the world, the second telling the exploits of Iwarehiko, which becomes first emperor of Japan, as of its 14 successors. The last volume immortalise life of the emperors, Nintoku (16th) to Suiko (the 33e).
