Sapaudie

The Sapaudie (in Latin Sapaudia ) is a territory corresponding to the southernmost part of the Maxima Sequanorum (area ranging between the Ain, the the Rhone, the Lac Léman, the the Jura and the Aar). It is possible that the territory also includes/understands part of the basin of Aar until the the Rhine, among which the cities of Geneva, Nyon and Avenches.

The term Sapaudia , literally " country of the sapins" , at the origin of the modern name Savoy is.

The use of the name is attested by Ammien Marcellin into 354.
