Santonien
The Santonien is a stratigraphic stage higher Crétacé. One dates it between -85,8 ± 0,7 and -83,5 ± 0,7 My, after the Coniacien and before the Campanien.
Stratotype
The santonien owes its name at the French city of Saintes, in Charente-Maritime, or précisemément with the former local people of the Santons.Its base is defined by the appearance of the Bivalve Cladoceramus undulatoplicatus and its top by the disappearance of the crinoïde Marsupites testudinarius .
