Santo Amaro da Imperatriz

Santo Amaro da Imperatriz is a city Brésil ienne of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located at a Latitude of 27° 41 ' 16" south and with a Longitude of 48° 46 ' 44" west, with a Altitude of 18 meters. Its population was estimated at: 18246 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 352 km ², of which 72% are located in protected natural reserve.

General information

Santo Amaro da Imperatriz belongs to the Metropolitan region of Florianópolis. The city has a privileged, dependant geographical location at the same time with the top-plates and the littoral of the Santa Catarina by trunk road BR-282. The city is also crossed by the Rio Cubatão C Sul.

History

The colonization of Santo Amaro da Imperatriz related to is discovered source of thermal springs by hunters in 1813. The imperial government then sent a detachment of police force to ensure the guard of the places, the area being inhabited by hostile Indians. The March 18th 1818, the king Jean VI decided the creation of a hospital there, first hydropathic establishment of the Brésil. In October 1845, Santo Amaro da Imperatriz accepted the visit of the imperial couple, Pierre II and his wife Marie-Therese, who ordered the construction of a building to receive the visitors in search of relief for their pains. In homage to the empress, the locality and its neighborhoods - then called Caldas C Cubatão -, were renamed Caldas da Imperatriz .

After several name changes, it becomes Santo Amaro da Imperatriz in 1949 and is high with the row of municipality in 1958, by dismemberment of Palhoça.
