Santiago of Cuba is a city Cuba innate of approximately 400.000 inhabitants, located at a little less than 1000 kilometers of Havana. The city is located between the sea and the mountains of the Sierra Maestra.

Santiago, which is important a port of fishing, is also a center of export of the Cuivre, Fer and agricultural produce of the surrounding area. The industrial plants of the city are diversified: foundries, distillings, factories of Cigar S, Soap S and construction materials. The city shelters a Université.

Santiago of Cuba was founded in 1514 by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar. In 1898, the city was the theater of the Bataille of Santiago, operation decisive in the Guerre Spanish-American, which carried out Cuba towards its independence.

To 50 km in the east of Santiago, is the Parque Baconao, the largest park of all the island of Cuba.
