Santiago del Estero (province)
Territory
The province of Santiago del Estero is located at the center-north of the Argentine in the area of the Gran Chaco Argentinian, on a surface of 136.351 km ². Its capital is the town of Santiago del Estero. In 2001 its population counted 804.457 inhabitants.
Geography and climate
The province forms part of the area almost completely very punt of the Gran Chaco, with some depressions in which ponds and lagoons are formed. Among those, the Bañado de Figueroa , the Bañado de Añatuya , and all those which are located close to the course of the Río Salado and the Río Dulce which cross the province.

Economy
The economy of the province is based on the primary production, in particular the agricultural sector, which includes/understands, mainly, the culture of the Coton (currently the province is the second producing one after Chaco), the Soja, the Maïs and the Oignon. For the breeding, the herds of bovines occupy a privileged place. This activity takes place primarily in the part is province, where the climate and precipitations are most favorable.
