Santa Monica is a coastal town of the west of the Comté of Los Angeles, in California, with the the United States. It is bordered in the west by the Baie of Santa Monica (Pacific Ocean, in north by Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, in the east by West Los Angeles and Mar Vista, and in the south by Venice. The census of 2000 indicated 84.084 inhabitants for the city, the population was nevertheless of 87.800 people during an estimate carried out in mid- July 2005.

History

Les  Amerindian S Tongva lived the area a long time. The Spanish carried out by Gaspar de Portolà discovered the zone the August 3rd 1769 and camped close to the current site of Wilshire Boulevard.

The city holds its name of Holy Monica d' Hippo, the owner of the women and the tormented victims.

Thanks to its pleasant climate, it is a place of relaxation appreciated since the beginning of the 20th century when many tourists go. The revitalization of its downtown area in the Années 1980 started again the growth of Santa Monica in the tourism and fields of application. The city is equipped with a pier (thrown on pile overhanging the beach and the ocean) of which Russian mountains, restaurants and many stores attract crowd.

In the Years 1970, the city was called “Popular republic of Santa Monica”; a highway was open in 1966.
