Sandnes
of the Norwegian county of Rogaland is a commune.
Sandnes was separated from Høyland and became common to whole share in 1861. The communes of Høyland and Høle (and part of Hetland) were reinstated in Sandnes in 1957 and 1965.
From its important ceramic industry, related to the strong presence of clay in the surroundings, Sandnes was called in Norway the “city of the pottery”.
The town of Sandnes is located 15 km at the south of Stavanger. The demographic expansion of the 2 cities made them approach, so that they form today practically part of the same agglomeration. In the west the commune of Sola is, in the south Klepp and Time, in the east Gjesdal and Forsand. The Fjord Gandsfjord is located North-South and finishes in the center of Sandnes.
The relief in the area of Stavanger and Sandnes is relatively flat. On the west coast several beaches are.
