The force of traction of the vehicle is the wind, collected by a sail.

Structure

The sand yacht is composed of two elements:
  • the frame , itself composed of a hull where one settles (sitted or lengthened according to the category of sand yacht), of a swing bar to direct it with the feet, of two aft wheels with axles, a nose gear wheel.
  • the gréement (veil, chechmate, listening, bôme).

Operations and safety regulations

The sand yacht makes it possible to reach fast speeds. Its practice on the beaches forces to comply with safety regulations. There exist thus rules defining of the priorities, that it is between the tanks or with the other users of the beach (pedestrians, buggy, riders…).

There exist various categories of sand yachts, subjected to a strict gauge for the competition. There exists besides an international federation, the FISLY, as well as a French federation of sand yacht.
