Sanctuary of Mow Lajas

Since the 18th century, the Sanctuaire of Mow Lajas is a place of worship and a Pèlerinage located in the Canyon formed by the Guaitara river, with 7  km of the town of Ipiales, in the department of Nariño, in the south of the Colombia at the Ecuadorian border . It is the center of the most important pilgrimage of South America.

The neogothic church is built with horse on throats, at the place even where a dumb little girl had found by miracle the word. Built between January 1916 and August 1949, it replaced a church which dated from the 19th century and becomes basilica in 1954. The way which reaches this place is covered with thousands of ex-votos on various grounds.

In 2007, one of the principal newspapers of the country organizes a contest to choose the 7 wonders of Colombia, and the Sanctuary of Mow Lajas obtains the second place, only exceeded by the Cathédrale of Salt of Zipaquirá.
