Sancerre

Sancerre is a common French, located in the department of the Cher and the area Center.

Geography

Sancerre is located at 310 meters of altitude to the top of the sea level, on an isolated mountain, being attached to the hills of the Sancerrois and whose top dominates the level of the the Loire, several hundreds of meters. Sancerre is with approximately 2 kilometers of left bank of the Loire, close to the confluence of Vauvise, the side channel in the Loire and with the distance of 43 km North-eastern of Bourges. The city is spread out over the escarpée slope, located at South-west, since the base of the hill until the top. Sancerre offers a splendid panorama on its vineyard and the edges of the Loire.

History in short

According to some historians, the name Sancerre is drawn " of César Sacré" and christianized later in " Saint-Cere". More probably, it is about the popular deformation of saint Satur, martyr African whose remainders would have been brought back to Saint-Satur.
