Sanahin

Sanahin (" Սանահին " in Armenian) is a village is which is located at the north of the Arménie, in the area of Lorri, and more precisely in the district of Toumanian .

One finds there a monastery dating from. The principal church which is dedicated to the Saint-Saver, was built on the initiative of the queen Khosrovanoush , between the year 967 and 970. The church comprent four side chapels. The Narthex ( Gavit in Armenian) adjacent with the church was built later, in 1181. The monastery, until the 13th century, belonged to the family of the Kiurikian .

The monastery (with that of Haghbat) is registered since 1996 on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO under number 777 as “a remarkable universal value and exceptional example of ecclesiastical architecture which developed in Arménie of”.
