San Pedro de Ycuamandyyú
San Pedro de Ycuamandyyú is a city and a district of the Paraguay, capital of the department of San Pedro, located at approximately 120 km of Asunción, capital of the country.
Names San Pedro del Ycuamandyyú , San Pedro de Ycuamandyjú or simply San Pedro are also current.
Founded in 1783, the city (the district) has a surface of 3.433 km ² and a population of 23.311 inhabitants (with the census of 2002), is one population density of 6,79 hab. /km ². This density appears very low at first sight, but it should be observed that the essence of the population is concentrated in the city itself and ten small towns located in a narrow band of territory of approximately 5 km out of 20 km located towards the North-East of the city, the hardly occupying whole more than one sixth of the total surface area of the district.
The district is bordered, in the south, by the Río Jejuí Guazú, affluent of the river Paraguay.
Among the monuments of San Pedro, one can quote his cathedral San Pedro Apóstol (San Pedro is seat of a diocese).
The city lays out in addition, inter alia equipment, of historical museum, a public library, 5 football stadiums and various sports equipment. The city moreover is equipped with a television network by cable, which places at the disposal of its subscribers about fifteen chains. Two radio stations also have their seat with San Pedro, one in modilation of frequency, at local audience and a second on the medium waves, with national audience.
San Pedro is also the seat of a faculty of agrarian sciences, depend on the university of Asunción, installed in a property of 25 hectares located at less than 2 km of the center town.
