San Marco
The San Marco is the traditional name of the Italian Force of unloading, which concerns the Marina militare. It is the heir to the traditions of the Marines (or fusiliers of navy) which go up with 1713. She is equipped with three ships of attack of the type LPD which are the San Marco , the San Giorgio and the San Giusto . It is the component Amphibie Italian Armed forces.
It bears the name of holy Marc, the patron saint of Venice in thanks of the city for these fusiliers who had defended it during the First World War. In the Fifties, the Italian navy withdraws Venezia.
It is stationed with Brindes since November 1991 in the barracks Sous-lieutenant of vessel Ermanno-Carlotto (death in China during the revolt of the Boxers).
Since October 1st 1999, it bears the name of Forza da sbarco beyond marina militare , structured like a brigade and which includes/understands:
- the regiment San Marco;
- the Carlotto regiment;
- the Means group of unloading (Mezzi da sbarco).
The regiment San Marco, ordered by a captain, is the projectable operational element while the Carlotto regiment ensures the technical support and logistics as well as the formation. The Means group of unloading, ordered by a commander, with the responsibility of provide minor naval machines which allow the unloading and transport between the ships and the beach of unloading.
The two regiments are based in the Carlotto barracks.
The Force has a surface of drive located on the small island of Pedagne, in the periphery of Brindes.
The Force lays out of approximately 2.100 sailors (including 6% officers, 30% officers marines and 64% of troop).
The regiment San Marco is made up:
- of the battalion of attack Grado
- of the logistic battalion (of combat) Golametto
- of a company of naval operations
- of a company of special operations
The Carlotto regiment is made up:
- of a logistic battalion Cortellazzo
- of a battalion school Caorle
The September 16th 1996 was created the hispano-Italian Force of unloading (in Italian Forza da sbarco ispano/italiana, SILF of English Spanish Italian Landing Force).
